The San Jose Police Department is investigating the kidnapping of 15 year old Raquel Menchaca, a San Jose Resident. Menchaca is believed to be with her 19 year old boyfriend, Leonel Vargas, a Stockton Resident.
Preliminary investigation into the disappearance revealed that Menchaca was last seen by her mother getting into a vehicle with Vargas at Oak Grove High School in South San Jose. Officers responded to the scene, but Menchaca and Vargas were already gone. Shortly thereafter, the victim’s father tracked down the victim and suspect and confronted them. The suspect then accelerated and ran over the victim’s father’s foot with his vehicle.
On Friday, January 6th, the victim’s family called police to report her missing. Officers responded to the victim’s home and took a missing person report. On Tuesday, January 10th, the missing person case was assigned to an investigator. Detectives believe that the victim and her boyfriend were likely in the City of Ukiah over the weekend.
The current whereabouts of Raquel Menchaca and Leonel Vargas is not known. After several interviews with the victim’s family, detectives are now exploring the possibility that Raquel Menchaca is being held against her will. It is believed that Menchaca and Vargas may be staying in the Stockton / Madera areas or Ukiah. Leonel Vargas has a $250,000 dollar Ramey Warrant for kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon (running over the father’s foot).
