Alameda County sheriff’s deputies continue to search for an inmate who escaped from the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin this evening, sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. J.D. Nelson said. Jose Luis Franco, 57, was returning from court when he “somehow was able to breach the wall of the jail,” Nelson said. “We don’t know exactly how he did that,” he said.
Franco, who was in jail for burglary charges out of Oakland, was reported missing at around 2 p.m. Deputies are searching the jail grounds as well as the hills north of the jail in Dublin and San Ramon. Franco was described as a Hispanic man, with black hair, brown eyes, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue pants and possibly a brown T-shirt, Nelson said.
