* Inmate Cut After Being Assaulted by Another Inmate at Monterey County Jail

An inmate at the Monterey County Jail in Salinas was allegedly beaten by a fellow inmate Thursday, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’s officials said it appears 29-year-old Christopher Sorenson of Salinas attacked John Oxley, who has a mailing address in Marina, at the county jail, located at 1410 Natividad Road in Salinas.

Oxley suffered cuts on his forehead, one of which required five stitches, according to the sheriff’s office. The assault occurred while both men were belly chained and wearing leg irons, sheriff’s officials said. Sorenson is facing charges of battery with great bodily injury, according to the sheriff’s office.
