A suspect in the Bay Point killing of 22-year-old Maurice Murray on Monday turned himself in to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday and has been arrested on suspicion of murder, according to the sheriff’s office. Damadri Reed, 22, surrendered at his Bay Point home in the first block of Ambrose Avenue about 9:40 p.m. Tuesday after detectives identified him as a suspect in the murder, sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee said.
Murray was pronounced dead at Reed’s home around 9:45 p.m. Monday after deputies and medical personnel responded to a report of a wounded person there, Lee said. Murray died of a gunshot to the abdomen, according to the sheriff’s office.
Lee said detectives believe Murray and Reed were not strangers, but he declined to elaborate.Reed is now being held in county jail on $1 million bail, Lee said.Detectives are set to bring the case to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office on Thursday.
