A 29-year-old man was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for sexually assaulting a pregnant woman in broad daylight outside her Sebastopol home in 2009, the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.Just after 2 p.m. on Nov. 16, 2009, Odalis Solano-Rosario walked up a long driveway and approached the victim, who was then 37 weeks pregnant and had just arrived home with her sons, aged 3 and 6.

Solano-Rosario attacked her and dragged her toward an area blocked from view by hedges and tall grass near the property’s fence line, where he sexually assaulted the woman within earshot of her young children. Her cries were heard by neighbors who came to her aid and interrupted the assault. As he attempted to flee, Solano-Rosario, who lived in the area, pulled a knife on one of the neighbors. Solano-Rosario, a Sebastopol resident, was apprehended by Sonoma County sheriff’s deputies and a K-9 unit on Nov. 17, 2009, and was convicted last month of sexual assault with the enhancement that he kidnapped the victim to commit the assault, prosecutors said.

According to statements submitted to the court, the victim, her husband and children experienced emotional trauma and the crime had financial and other impacts on their lives. “No words can adequately describe the pain and suffering inflicted by this defendant on the victim, her young children and her husband,” District Attorney Jill Ravitch said Thursday.
