The Alameda County coroner’s bureau has identified a man who was struck and killed by two hit-and-run drivers in Fremont on Monday. Ralph Huerta, 56, was struck in the southbound lane of Ardenwood Boulevard just south of state Highway 84 around 7:30 p.m. Monday. Huerta had no listed address but had family in the East Bay, coroner’s officials said.
Fremont police Detective Bill Veteran said two patrol officers found Huerta down on Ardenwood Boulevard as passersby were attempting to resuscitate him. Paramedics transported him to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, where he was pronounced dead, according to Veteran. The preliminary investigation indicates that Huerta was crossing southbound Ardenwood Boulevard in an easterly direction outside of a crosswalk when a light-colored mid-size SUV traveling south struck him and knocked him to the ground, Veteran said.
The SUV continued traveling south on Ardenwood Boulevard and a second vehicle behind the SUV also ran over Huerta while he was on the ground, according to Veteran. The drivers of both vehicles fled the scene and remain outstanding, according to Veteran.
