A 1-year-old child dropped from a second story window by his mother on Christmas morning suffered only minor injuries, San Jose police said this afternoon.  Police were called to the 3500 block of Alden Way around 11:30 a.m. on a report that a mother had locked herself into a bathroom with her child, Sgt. Jason Dwyer said.

When officers arrived on the scene and forced their way into the bathroom, she allegedly dropped the child out of a second-story window. Fortunately, he received only minor injuries, “bumps and bruises,” Dwyer said.

The mother threw herself out the window after her child but also survived, suffering minor injuries to her feet. She remains in custody this afternoon. Dwyer said it is unclear what charges might be filed but she is being evaluated for possible
psychiatric issues.
