A Mount Diablo Unified School District custodian was arrested Thursday evening on charges of lewd acts with a child under 14 years old, police said. Forty-four year old John Astor from Walnut Creek was arrested around 7 p.m. in the 500 block of Jones Place in Walnut Creek, near his home, after police served a search-and-arrest warrant for the custodian employed by the school district, police said.
He was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility and held on $1.5 million bail. Police are seeking additional information about Astor given his job as a janitor at a variety of schools throughout the district and his accessibility to children. Anyone who suspects their child may be a victim is urged to contact police at (925) 943-5844.
