Police arrested a teenager on suspicion of commercial burglary and misappropriation of lost property on Tuesday after the teen allegedly tried to use a woman’s lost gift certificate at a San Anselmo business, police said. Officers were dispatched to the store, located in the 600 block of San Anselmo Avenue, at about 1:30 p.m. A customer had told the business owner she had lost her purse on Monday and that the purse contained a $340 gift certificate.
She had asked the owner to look out for anyone trying to use the certificate, police said. The suspect, Sean Michael Baxter, 19, of San Jose, told police he had found the gift certificate in San Rafael on Monday. He said he saw the printed name on the certificate but did not try to contact the owner, according to police. Baxter was taken into custody and booked into Main County Jail, police said.
