A man was arrested for driving under the influence after he crashed into the back of a house in Martinez early Sunday morning. Joel Schlichtman-Enghlish, 28, was driving east on Morello Avenue when patrol officers were about to make a traffic stop at about 3:30 a.m., according to Martinez police. The suspect apparently made a sharp left turn in order to avoid the officers, police said.
He was driving too fast to negotiate the turn and crashed through a rear yard and struck a house on Morning Glory Lane, police said. The residents were awakened by the crash but were uninjured, police said. Schlichtman-Enghlish was arrested for DUI and resisting arrest after a brief struggle with officers, police said.
