A Daly City man whose ex-wife allegedly threw a boiling pot of water on him while he was sleeping died today, and now the woman is facing murder charges, police said. Jesusa Ursonal Tatad, 39, who was divorced but still living with her ex-husband, allegedly waited for him to fall asleep Nov. 26 then went into his bedroom with a pot of boiling water, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
The water caused second- and third-degree burns over 60 percent of the man’s head and body. Prosecutors allege that when the victim ran into the bathroom afterward, Tatad hit him on the head with a baseball bat. The victim was able to run out of their home and flag down a security guard, who called 911, according to the district attorney’s office. The man, who was unable to speak since the attack, was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he had been in critical but stable condition until today.
Following the attack, Tatad was arrested and charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, aggravated mayhem and torture. She pleaded not guilty to all of those charges Wednesday. Now she is facing murder charges.
