The Contra Costa County coroner’s office has identified a 19-year-old man who was fatally shot during a botched home invasion in Richmond Wednesday night. Richmond resident Robby Ross Jr. and another suspect were shot by a resident during a home invasion robbery in the 400 block of South 35th Street, police said.
Officers who arrived at the scene after receiving alerts from the department’s ShotSpotter gunshot detection system found the 19-year-old suffering from gunshot wounds around the corner from the home. Ross was taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Richmond where he was pronounced dead.
A second intruder — a 26-year-old Richmond man — was also shot, and is in police custody at a nearby hospital, where he is in stable condition after undergoing surgery, police Lt. Lori Curran said.Police continue to search for other possible suspects in the attempted home invasion but have yet to make additional arrests.
