San Mateo police are trying to identify a man who robbed a check-cashing business at gunpoint Monday and attempted to rob a second one Tuesday. Officers responded to reports of an armed robbery at California Check Cashing at 610 S. Norfolk St. at 11 a.m. Tuesday.  A black male in his late teens to early 20s had entered the business with a handgun and demanded money, police said. An alarm sounded and the suspect fled before getting any cash.

Investigators believe the suspect was the man who went into a Check ‘n Go at 3880 S. El Camino at about the same time Monday.  The robber in that case entered the business with a handgun and stole an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing, police said.  No one was injured in either incident.  The suspect is about 5 feet 9 inches tall with an average build.
