Published by on December 2, 2011

A daylong search ended with an arrest tonight when Oakland police detained a man who fled from officers this morning, a police spokeswoman said. Officers responded to a building in the 3100 block of High Street at around 9:55 a.m. today to look for a man who is wanted in Fremont on several arrest warrants for burglary and weapons possession, spokeswoman Johnna Watson said.

As the officers approached the building, they spotted the man getting into a car. When the officers tried to detain him, the man drove away, Watson said. A car chase followed and ended in the 3200 block of High Street, where the man ran away, according to Watson. Watson said officers recovered a gun from the car, which reported stolen out of Oakland.

Oakland police, along with the California Highway Patrol and Fremont police, set up a perimeter around a two-block radius and actively searched the area, Watson said. The man was found at a home in the 3100 block of High Street at around 9:50 p.m., Watson said.
