A man driving with his wife in Greenfield Thursday evening was pulled over by Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies, eventually leading to a search of the couple’s home, where drugs and a gun were found, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies pulled over 33-year-old Greenfield resident Luis Ontiveros for apparent vehicle code violations around 7:42 p.m.   He was found driving without a license and his wife had almost $2,000 in cash in her pockets and no identification, which spurred the home search, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. The suspects allowed deputies to search their home in the 47000 block of Arroyo Seco Road.

At the home, deputies allegedly found suspected drug packaging and marijuana. A Remington Arms .22-caliber firearm, fully loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition, was also found at the house, sheriff’s officials said. Ontiveros has a prior conviction for domestic violence, allegedly making him a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, officials said. According to the sheriff’s office, the case has been taken to the district attorney’s office.
