A suspected thief was arrested Tuesday morning after police found him with property stolen from cars parked on a Belmont street, police said. Just after 4 a.m., police arrested Jesse Salgado, 18, of Menlo Park, in the 500 block of Ralston Avenue. Police said Salgado was under the influence of a controlled substance and was in possession of a GPS unit taken from a car parked in the
400 block of that street.
Salgado was also linked to a camera stolen from another car and an attempted car theft in the 100 block of Ralston Avenue, according to police. He was booked into San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City on charges of attempted auto theft and possession of stolen property. Police are investigating whether Salgado has been involved in other similar crimes in the area. Police advised city residents to lock their parked cars. Both of the cars that were burglarized Tuesday morning were unlocked, police said.
