San Rafael police arrested a suspect of a Terra Linda residential burglary Tuesday in an area that experienced five burglaries or attempted burglaries in the past 10 days, a police spokeswoman said. Officer Leslie O’Toole was patrolling the Esmeyer and Tamarack drives area around 2 p.m. when she saw a man in black clothing running down the street, spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said.
A minute after O’Toole contacted the man, identified as Francisco Rojas Jr., she heard a burglary alarm at a home down the street, Rohrbacher said. Officers found fresh pry marks on a door of the home in the 700 block of Tamarack Drive, Rohrbacher said. The burglary attempt set off the alarm, scaring off the suspect, Rohrbacher said.
A neighbor who saw the man running from the scene identified Rojas as the burglary suspect, Rohrbacher said. Rojas, 20, of San Rafael, was booked in the Marin County jail for burglary and a violation of probation for possessing stolen property, Rohrbacher said. His bail is $50,000. San Rafael police and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the five burglaries and attempted burglaries in the area over the past 10 days, Rohrbacher said.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant and report suspicious cars and people in the neighborhood, Rohrbacher said.A white Cadillac with one or more black males has been seen in the area and is believed to be associated with the crimes, Rohrbacher said.
