A gun battle between Mexican Naval Forces and drug cartel gunmen was caught on camera by a bystander. The incident happened on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at about 3 in the afternoon. The marines went to the aid of local police involved in a shootout with the gunmen at the Plaza Sendero shopping center.

The shootout lasted about 2 hours and trapped 650 to 700 people in the mall.  A spokesman for the Secretary of the Navy reported that no hostages were taken and no one wounded. Three gunmen were arrested. Many people are concerned that this incident may have a negative impact on tourism.
