A man was arrested outside of a storage facility in Sausalito for suspicion of burglarizing several storage units on Saturday night, police said. A Sausalito police officer was conducting patrols in the area of 170 Gate 5 Road when he saw a suspicious vehicle in the area of Sausalito Mini-Storage nearby at 11:53 p.m.
The officer then saw a man walk away from the storage facility and get into a car to drive away, police said. The officer contacted the driver, and saw a large amount of property in the vehicle. The driver was identified as Charles Horne, and Horne gave the officer consent to search his vehicle, police said.
During the search, the officer found property that didn’t belong to Horne, including a purse with numerous IDs, checks belonging to other people, tools, bicycles and other items, police said. Police then found that at least 14 of the nearby storage units had been broken into, and officers confirmed that the property that was in Horne’s vehicle was stolen from the storage units, police said.
Horne was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail for suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property, and possession of burglary tools, police said. Police said they also discovered that Horne is originally from Arizona and had a criminal history in that state. Officers are continuing to investigate the incident, and said they have discovered three more suspect leads.
