* Larry Bantola was Arrested on Suspicion of Sending Threats to Several Schools in Contra Costa County

A man was arrested in Antioch this morning on suspicion of sending threats to several schools in Contra Costa County in recent weeks, Martinez police said. Larry Bantola, 36, was arrested at about 8 a.m. today at his home in the 4400 block of Buckeye Way, police said. Bantola allegedly sent threatening emails, faxes and letters to school districts and schools in Martinez, Pleasant Hill and Concord.

Evidence related to the threats was found at his home, according to police. Investigators believe Bantola was angry at a former friend and sent the threats in the friend’s name in an attempt to damage his reputation. The friend is cooperating with police.

Bantola has no known connection to the schools that received the threats, police said. He will be booked into county jail on seven counts of criminal threats with bail set at $350,000, according to police.
