Scammers have been distributing fliers to homes in San Francisco asking for $20 to paint curb numbers, officials warned Friday. The fliers claim to come from “Community Services” or “Community Address Painting Service” or similar names, and imply they are from a legitimate service, San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency spokesman Paul Rose said.

However, the SFMTA’s policy is to not paint addresses on curbs, and real SFMTA curb painting crews will never demand payment on the spot or ask that money be left at the front door for collection, Rose said. Residents should ignore the fliers and refrain from giving money to anyone offering to paint their curb, he said.
