Oakland police made an arrest early this morning in connection with a shooting earlier this month that left three dead and three others injured at tattoo party held at a San Leandro warehouse, police said. Oakland police Officer Johnna Watson said Oakland police assisted San Leandro police in the arrest, and that Oakland’s SWAT team was present at the scene. The shooting happened early the morning of Oct. 2 when two gunmen opened fire outside a warehouse near the corner of Alvarado Street and Aladdin Avenue.
Killed in the shooting were 16-year-old Leneasha Northington, 19-year-old Shanice Kiel and 23-year-old Joshua Alford. Three others were injured. San Leandro police estimated shortly after the shooting that about 200 people attended the party, most in their late teens or early 20s, and that the party was heavily promoted on social media sites like Facebook. The party had ended by the time the shooting happened around 1:20 a.m., but there was still a large group of people in the parking lot, police
San Leandro police had been looking for a person of interest in the shooting, described as a black man with a light complexion, 18 to 24 years old, 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a slim build and shoulder-length dreadlocks. Watson could not say whether the man arrested this morning is that person of interest. Police have not released the suspect’s name, and San Leandro police were not available to provide more details this morning.
