A suspected car thief and a 14-year-old boy were injured this morning when the alleged thief lost control of the stolen car during a police chase and crashed into a pole, a Fremont Fire Department captain said. The crash occurred about half a mile east of Interstate Highway 680, near the intersection of Durham Road and Paseo Padre Parkway, at about 8:10 a.m., Capt. Gerry Fogel said.

The teenager was in the back seat of the car when the crash occurred, Fogel said. Both the man, who suffered major injuries, and the boy, who had moderate injuries, had to be extricated from the vehicle by fire personnel and were transported to a hospital for treatment, he said. A call to police seeking more details was not immediately returned.
