A 77-year-old woman was killed Saturday night in a hit-and-run crash in Salinas, police said today. The woman was crossing the road at Main Street and Bernal Drive when she was struck by a full-sized cargo van, which then fled the scene, police said. She succumbed to major injuries suffered in the crash and died at a hospital.
The suspect van was last seen fleeing the scene and driving east on Bernal Drive, police said. Witnesses to the crash described the van as a white, late 1980s to early 1990s-model full-size Chevrolet or Ford cargo van with ladder racks on the roof. The vehicle’s bumper, hood and possibly windshield were likely damaged.
