A suspect in a Richmond murder barricaded himself inside a San Leandro house in an overnight standoff that ended in a shooting early this morning, a Richmond police lieutenant said. San Leandro police responded to a home in the 15000 block of Central Avenue Wednesday morning regarding a suspect in the murder of San Pablo resident Jensy Romero, 30, at Angie’s Bakery & Restaurant at 12889 San Pablo Ave. in Richmond, Richmond police Lt. Shawn Pickett said.
Romero’s body was discovered Tuesday night in the restaurant’s bathroom. Richmond police said Wednesday that someone with whom Romero had been in a relationship might have killed her. A San Leandro police SWAT team surrounded the house while negotiations with the suspect — who had barricaded himself inside a room on the second floor — continued throughout the day Wednesday, Pickett said.
Around 9 p.m., San Leandro police notified Richmond police, who arrived and assumed positions around the house while negotiators made contact with the suspect and tried to get him to surrender peacefully, according to Pickett. The suspect finally came out of the house around 2 a.m., carrying a rifle. Officers fired at him, hitting him, and he was taken into police custody. After the shooting, he was taken to a nearby trauma center where he is in critical condition, Pickett said.
