A would-be bicycle thief was allegedly caught by San Anselmo police carrying drugs and drug paraphernalia, police said. Officers responded to the 600 block of San Anselmo Avenue where someone reported a bicycle theft that happened in front of a business at about 7 p.m. An off-duty police officer from the Tiburon Police Department and another from the Sausalito Police Department allegedly witnessed the event and detained the suspect until San Anselmo police officers arrived.

When contacted by the San Anselmo officers, the suspect was allegedly found to be in possession of an illegal substance and its accoutrements, police said. Police arrested Donald Hanneman, 42, of San Francisco, and he was booked on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and for possession of an illegal narcotic. The bicycle was returned to its owner, police said.
