Solano Community College student-athlete Ennis Johnson II died of a single gunshot wound to the head, the Solano County coroner’s office said this afternoon. Johnson, 21, was found dead by his parents in a bedroom of their home at The Pointe Apartments in the 2500 block of Hilborn Road in Fairfield around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday. Fairfield police arrested 23-year-old Kenneth Darnell Franklin for the murder.
Franklin, a Fairfield resident, is scheduled to be arraigned Monday afternoon in Solano County Superior Court. He is being held in Solano County Jail under no bail. Police are looking for a second suspect, Hasan McCaulie, 18, who has addresses in Vallejo and Richmond, Fairfield police Lt. Greg Hurlbut said. McCaulie owns several handguns and should be considered armed and dangerous, police said. Johnson was specifically targeted by his associates and was robbed during the murder, Hurlbut said. Johnson, a sophomore, was a starting linebacker on the Solano Community College football team and a member of the basketball team, according to Peter Bostic, the college’s public affairs director.
Head football coach Floyd Burnsed said Johnson “was well liked by the team and always a positive influence for us.” He was majoring in technology and electronics and planned to transfer to a university, Bostic said. Johnson graduated from Armijo High School in Fairfield.
