A Martinez man was arrested Thursday in connection with a violent home invasion robbery in Pinole on Sunday, Pinole police said. Russell Blake Baker, 44, was arrested on suspicion of elder abuse, robbery, conspiracy, assault with a firearm and possession of stolen property, police said.

The robbery happened at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday when two men reportedly tricked the victims, a 72-year-old woman and a 75-year-old man, into letting them inside their home. Once inside, the men taped up the woman and then beat the man until he agreed to open his safe, police said.

The men then stole several items, including guns, from the safe and fled in the victims’ gray 2008 Honda Accord, which has a license plate number of 6BOF304. The male victim was transported to a hospital, where he was treated for bruises, cuts and a serious head wound. He is expected to recover, police said. As of today, police were still looking for additional suspects and had not yet recovered the victim’s car, police said.
