Two armed males robbed a Cordelia gardening business that sells hydroponics supplies Monday afternoon, a Fairfield police lieutenant said. The suspects entered Green Haven Garden Supply at 469 Lopes Road around 3:30 p.m. and took the store’s cash box, as well as wallets and cellphones from six people who were in the business, Lt. Greg Hurlbut said.
The robbers appeared to have a chrome, six-inch revolver, Hurlbut said. The owner of the business, Jim Hicks, said no one was injured, and that the robbers also took keys to some of the businesses’ vehicles. The robbers were unable to match the keys to any vehicles before they fled, Hicks said. Some of the robbery victims chased the suspects and confronted them outside, Hurlbut said.
The suspects fired the gun, either at the victims or into the air, as they fled, he said. Police and a California Highway Patrol aircraft searched the area but did not find the suspects, who may have fled in a small white car, Hurlbut said. One is described as a black male, 5 feet 6 inches tall and approximately 160 pounds. He was wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt pulled tightly around his face, Hurlbut said.
The other suspect, also a black male, is more than 6 feet tall and weighs about 200 pounds. He was wearing a dark-colored mask and had a large Afro, Hurlbut said. Hurlbut said the business does not advertise that idark-colored mask and had a large Afro, Hurlbut said. Hurlbut said the business does not advertise that it sells equipment that can be used to grow marijuana indoors, but said the majority of its clients pay cash for the equipment to avoid providing identifying information.
“There is no indication that this robbery was random in nature,” Hurlbut said.Hurlbut said investigators discourage crime victims from confronting armed suspects, and urge them to call police instead.
