A San Francisco man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was robbed, attacked and shot by several suspects, who also injured a bystander, at basketball courts in the city’s Sunnydale neighborhood Saturday night, police said.

The victim, a 22-year-old man, was at the basketball courts near Brookdale Avenue and Santos Street around 8:05 p.m. when he was approached by two or three males who demanded his belongings, San Francisco police Sgt. Michael Andraychak said. When the man refused, the suspects physically assaulted him and took his phone, Andraychak said.

The man ran away and one suspect fired shots at him, which struck him multiple times. A woman who was standing in her front yard at the time of the shooting was also struck by one of the bullets, he said. The suspects fled the scene and the victim ran to a store where an ambulance was called, Andraychak said.

He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Family members took the woman, who is in her 50s, to a nearby hospital before she was transported by ambulance to San Francisco General Hospital, Andraychak said. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Police are searching for two or three suspects, who are described as Hispanic or Samoan males. No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
