A San Rafael man has been arrested in the murder of a woman found dead in the Canal Neighborhood, police said today. Police were called to a home at 49 Harbor St. around 6:45 a.m. Friday on the report of a woman who was not breathing, Sgt. Jim Correa said. Officers found the woman, a 46-year-old San Rafael resident, dead when they arrived, and showing signs of blunt force trauma injuries to her face.
There were several men in the home, and one of them, Robert Lee Stanley, 51, was dating the woman or had been dating her recently, Correa said. Police had been called to the victim’s home shortly before 4:30 a.m. regarding a verbal argument and at that time had asked Stanley to leave the area, after determining no crime had been committed at that time.
Following an investigation, Stanley was arrested and charged with the homicide. He was also charged with making criminal threats and robbery in connection with an incident around 5:15 a.m., in which he allegedly threatened to kill both store clerks and stole an item from them using fear. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday to determine the exact cause of death.
