* Man Shot Near Balboa Park BART Station in San Francisco

A man was seriously injured in a shooting near the Balboa Park BART station in San Francisco on Thursday morning, police said today. The shooting was reported at 11:17 a.m. near the intersection of  San Jose and Geneva avenues. The 18-year-old victim in a car with a 19-year-old passenger when they were fired upon by people in another vehicle, according to San Francisco police. The 18-year-old was struck in the hip and back by the gunfire.

He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are considered life-threatening, police said. The other passenger in the car was not injured. The suspects, males in their late teens or early 20s, fled and have not been found as of this morning, according to police. The shooting came five hours after a man was stabbed in the neck in the Balboa Park BART station. A transient, 35-year-old Wilfred Brown, was arrested following the apparently unprovoked attack. The victim, a man in his 60s, is expected to survive, BART police said. San Francisco police spokesman Lt. Troy Dangerfield said he did not know if the shooting had any connection to the earlier stabbing.
