A homeless man from the Redwood City area was arrested after he allegedly broke into two homes in the city Wednesday afternoon. Officers responded to a report of an intruder in a home in the 1400 block of Jefferson Avenue at about 3:10 p.m., according to the Redwood City Police Department. A 50-year-old woman told police that an unknown man had opened the front door of her home and walked inside.
When she confronted him, he said he was in the wrong house and left, police said.Less than an hour later, officers responded to a call reporting a break-in at a home in the 1100 block of Ruby Street. A 53-year-old man said he did not respond to a knock at the door, and shortly thereafter heard someone tampering with a window, police said. The resident confronted the suspect at the window and followed him a short distance before calling police dispatch. The suspect, who was later identified as David Anthony Brooks, 46, was found by police in the 1500 block of Roosevelt Avenue. Brooks was taken into custody and identified by both victims as the man who allegedly tried to break into their respective homes. Brooks was booked into San Mateo County Jail for burglary and attempted burglary.
