Police arrested a 42-year-old Fairfield man Tuesday night in connection with a fatal shooting in Pinole that morning, police said today. Police received a call shortly after 7 a.m. reporting gunshots in the area of Buena Vista Drive, police said. Two minutes later, police received a second call reporting a gunshot victim in front of a home on Fern Avenue, down the street from Buena Vista Drive, police said.

Officers responded to both locations and found the victim, identified by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as 42-year-old San Pablo resident Jeffrey McCoy, on Fern Avenue. Paramedics attempted to save McCoy, but he died at the scene, police said. Investigators were able to identify Brian Fitch as a suspect, and at about 10 p.m., Pinole and Fairfield police arrested Fitch in Fairfield, police said. He was booked into county jail in Martinez, where he is being held on $1 million bail, a county jail official said.
