A man was fatally shot in San Francisco’s Mission District early Monday morning, the third homicide in the neighborhood in less than a week, police said. The shooting was reported at 2:18 a.m. in the first block of Camp Street, near Guerrero Street. Officers responding to a report of shots fired found a 45-year-old man lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound to the head and another to the chest, according to police.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner’s office has not yet released his name. No arrests have been made, and no suspect information was immediately available as of this morning, police said. The fatal shooting is the third in the Mission District since last Tuesday. Early that morning, Gaspar Puch-Tzek was killed in a shooting near the intersection of 19th and San Carlos streets, and later that night, 29-year-old Edson Lacayo was found fatally shot in the 800 block of Hampshire Street.
No arrests have been made in either of those shootings, which prompted police to increase patrols in the neighborhood over the weekend to try to quell potential violence between the Norteno and Sureno gangs. Both shootings are being investigated as gang-related, according to police. Investigators believe Puch-Tzek may have been mistaken for a gang member, which he was not.
