Police have arrested a 25-year-old Oakland man in connection with a shooting that occurred in the city early Saturday morning. Officers responded to a reported shooting in the 2600 block of 73rd Avenue at about 3:55 a.m., according to Oakland police spokeswoman Holly Joshi.

Arriving officers found a black 1999 Mercedez SUV that had crashed into a pole, Joshi said. The driver had been shot multiple times. The victim was taken to Highland Hospital and was listed in critical condition, Joshi said Sunday.

Investigators arrested a man in connection with the shooting in the 800 block of W. Grand Avenue. He was taken into custody for questioning and has so far denied any involvement in the crime, Joshi said. The shooting remains under investigation.
