A 21-year-old Santa Cruz man was walking Thursday night when two suspects approached him, hit and kicked him, then took his wallet and cellphone, police said. Around 10:30 p.m., the victim was walking near Walnut Avenue and California Street when two men approached him.

One suspect pulled out a black revolver and demanded that the victim give them everything in his possession, according to police. The suspects then told the victim to get on the ground. As the victim got on his knees, the suspects hit him with a closed fist, kicked him and hit him with the revolver. They then took his cellphone and wallet.

The suspects told the victim to walk away and then the two men fled the area and got into a car and drove away. The 21-year-old suffered injuries in the attack and was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said. Officers searched the area with a K-9 unit, but could not find the two men.

The victim described the first suspect as an 18- to 22-year-old light-skinned Hispanic man who is about 5 feet 8 inches tall with an average build and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and long shorts with a black revolver, police said. The second suspect was described as an 18- to 22-year-old light-skinned Hispanic man, about 6 feet tall with an average build and short dark hair who was wearing a T-shirt and jeans.
