An 18-year-old man is being treated for life-threatening injuries after being shot multiple times at a park in Salinas this morning, the city’s third in a series of similar shootings since Saturday, police said. Police found the man after receiving reports of a shooting near a restroom at a park near East Laurel Drive and Ranch View Lane, Sgt. Christopher Lane said.

An officer found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside the park’s bathroom around 10 a.m. this morning. The victim, a Salinas resident whose name has not been released, was airlifted to a hospital where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries, police said. A witness spotted a vehicle police believe may be involved in the shooting. It was described as a gold, four-door Toyota Avalon with a California license plate No.6KMN760, Lane said.

On Tuesday night another Salinas man, 20-year-old Francisco Hereida, was shot several times after stepping outside of a home in the 500 block of John Street at around 8 p.m. Hereida was pronounced dead at the scene, making him the city’s ninth homicide victim this year, police said. Another Salinas man, 24-year-old Juan Manuel Avila, was fatally shot three days earlier outside an apartment complex in the 900 block of Acosta Plaza where he was attending a baptism party, police said. Lane said it has not been determined whether the three shootings are related, but said all three crimes appear to be gang related.
