A Pinole police officer who was shot in the shoulder during a robbery Wednesday morning that turned into a shootout remains in the hospital today, but police said he was doing well. Information about how a security guard and a suspect who were also wounded during the incident was not immediately available this morning.
A second suspect, however, was shot and killed during the incident. He has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as 25-year-old El Sobrante resident Pierre Daniel. The incident began shortly after 9:15 a.m. when Daniel and the second suspect attempted to rob a Loomis armored car in front the Wells Fargo bank at 1374 Fitzgerald Drive, police said. Initial reports indicated that two male suspects were involved in the robbery and that one of the security officers working for Loomis had been shot, police said. Responding officers encountered Daniels, who was armed with a gun, on Fitzgerald Drive near the bank and shot him.
Another suspect was arrested after he showed up at Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo seeking treatment for a gunshot wound. Pinole police, the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, Richmond police and the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the case.
