Two men have been arrested in connection with a gang-related cold case murder that occurred in Mountain View nearly seven years ago, the FBI announced today.Anthony Figueroa, 23, was arrested Friday in connection with a drive-by shooting on Sept. 24, 2004, that left 17-year-old Alex Fernandez dead, according to the FBI.

Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Frank Carrubba said Figueroa is believed to have been driving the car used in the shooting, which happened as Fernandez was walking in the 500 block of South Rengstorff Avenue. The suspect’s father, Arthur Figueroa, 49, was also arrested, Carrubba said. Prosecutors believe the elder Figueroa lied to grand jurors during an investigation into the killing in 2010.

He has been charged with perjury. Anthony Figueroa has been charged with murder and could face life in prison if convicted, Carrubba said. Investigators believe the shooter was Giovanni Duarte, 24, who was arrested in March and charged with murder, Carrubba said.

Police believe three other people were in the car at the time of the shooting, and investigators from the Santa Clara County Violent Gang Task Force are still working identify them, Carrubba said. The shooting is believed to have stemmed from a dispute between the Norteno and Sureno street gangs. Anthony and Arthur Figueroa are scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 2.
