* Woman in Critical Condition After Being Attacked with Hammer

A woman is in critical condition after being attacked with a hammer in an agricultural field in Salinas early this morning, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded shortly before 1 a.m. to a reported stabbing or shooting in an agricultural field near 1816 Old State Road, according to the sheriff’s office. There, deputies found a woman with multiple head and face injuries and had her airlifted to a trauma center. The victim suffered a number of injuries, including multiple skull fractures, a broken neck, internal bleeding of the brain, and lacerations to her head and face, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies believe someone attacked the victim with a hammer, but no arrests have been made. The sheriff’s office is investigating the case.
