A man suspected of abusing his 5-year-old stepson, causing life-threatening injuries, was arrested Monday in Aromas in unincorporated Monterey County, Monterey County sheriff’s officials said. The stepfather, Armando Saldana, 28, of Aromas, was arrested in the 300 block of Blohm Avenue and taken to Monterey County Jail, where he was booked on suspicion of battery causing great bodily injury, child endangerment and parole violation, according to the sheriff’s office. The child suffered a broken arm and a laceration to his pancreas and remains hospitalized, sheriff’s officials said.
