Published by Junior Staff Writer on August 15, 2011
A shooting in the quiet coastal town of Half Moon Bay on Sunday evening may have been connected to gang violence, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. Two groups of young men became involved in an altercation that led to the shooting around 5 p.m. today near First Avenue and Grove Street, a sheriff’s office spokesman said. The shooting did not result in any life-threatening injuries, and may have been gang-related, officials said. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his early 20s who was riding a green bicycle. He is thought to live in the immediate area. Officials said that citizens should not fear for their safety, since the shooting was directed at specific individuals.
