* Benjamin Dess Arrested in Santa Cruz for Parole Violation

A parolee at large was arrested by police near the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk after officers allegedly found drugs and stolen property inside his motel room Saturday night, police said. Santa Cruz police officers were patrolling the beach area just after 9 p.m. when they spotted 24-year-old Benjamin Dess, a parolee who had a warrant for his arrest. Officers watched Dess enter a motel room in the 300 block of Riverside Avenue with a woman. Police approached Dess and the woman, 19-year-old Victoria Nicklin, inside the room.
After searching the room, officers found five grams of methamphetamine, prescription Vicodin, and several stolen electronic devices. Dess was allegedly carrying more than $2500, police said. Dess was arrested on a parole warrant and on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine for sales, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of stolen property. Police also arrested Nicklin, who had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. Both were booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail.
