A second suspect was arrested late this morning in connection with a May homicide in unincorporated Rodeo, Contra Costa County Sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee said. At about 10:15 p.m. on May 30 sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of gunshots in the 1200 block of Tullibee Court.
When they arrived, deputies found 22-year-old Rodeo resident James Newman Jr. suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. On June 29, deputies arrested 19-year-old Rodeo resident Anthony Wiley in connection with the shooting, Lee said.
At about 11 a.m. today detectives, with help from a California Highway Patrol helicopter, served search and arrest warrants on a residence in the first block of Railroad Avenue in Rodeo, where they arrested 34-year-old Mikaele Lui Taito. Taito was being interviewed this afternoon in connection with Newman’s murder, Lee said.
