Eight people were arrested following a shooting incident in Union City that injured at least one man Thursday afternoon, police said today. The arrests were made Thursday shortly after the 12:45 p.m. shooting, which occurred on Fourth Street between D and E streets, said police Sgt. Tom Gorrie. Witnesses told police that two groups of people shot at each other and gave officers descriptions of the suspects and a vehicle, police said. An officer spotted a vehicle that matched the suspect vehicle description and performed a traffic stop. The occupants were detained and later arrested, according to police. The suspected shooter is among the eight people arrested, police said.

During the investigation, police learned that an 18-year-old man from Union City was being treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound. The victim was in stable condition with injuries that are not considered life-threatening. Police believe that between 20 and 30 people were involved in the argument that led to the shooting. Gorrie said the argument appeared to initially involve a man and woman who were dating.
