* Alejandro Avila Jr. shot to death in Richmond at 24th Street and Exchange Place

A man who was shot to death in Richmond on Saturday night has been identified as 19-year-old Alejandro Avila Jr., according to the Contra Costa County coroner’s office. Avila and a 29-year-old man were shot shortly before 10 p.m. at 24th Street and Exchange Place, police said. Avila, whose city of residence is unknown, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, police said. The shooting was the ninth homicide in Richmond this month and the 21st this year.
