East Palo Alto police held a news conference this morning to announce the names of three suspects in two homicides that occurred in the city earlier this month. The suspects are Christian Fuentes, 20, who is currently in custody in Alameda County; Jaime Cardenas, 19; and Fidel Silva, 20.
Cardenas and Silva are at large and are being sought by police. All three are East Palo Alto residents. They are being sought in connection with fatal shootings that happened in East Palo Alto on July 13 and July 19.
The July 13 shooting killed Menlo Park resident Catherine Fisher, 19, while she was in East Palo Alto sitting in a parked car with a male and another female in the 2500 block of Annapolis Street at about 2:10 a.m., acting Capt. Jeff Liu of the East Palo Alto Police said.
On July 19 at about 8:45 p.m., 23-year-old Jabari Banford was found lying on the sidewalk in the 2500 block of Illinois Avenue suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, East Palo Alto police said. Police said it appears that Banford was standing on the sidewalk and talking to someone in a vehicle when a white sedan approached and stopped behind the other car. Someone exited the sedan, walked toward Banford and shot him in the torso several times before fleeing, police said.
