Officers are searching for a man who allegedly assaulted his mother, pointed a gun at her head, and evaded a SWAT team Wednesday night, police said. Police responded to the 3900 block of Doral Drive at around 8:20 p.m. on reports that a man had choked his 75-year-old mother until she nearly lost consciousness and aimed a gun at her head. The woman had fled to a neighbor’s house to call police.
Officers spotted the suspect, Michael Austin, 39, at the house when they arrived, police said. Surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution and the department’s SWAT team was deployed along with the crisis negotiations team, police said. Search and arrest warrants were issued around midnight. The SWAT team tried to make contact with Austin for several hours before entering the home, police said. Austin was not found in the home or during a search of the surrounding area.
Austin was described as a white man, 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 190 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Police said Austin is considered armed and dangerous.
