Two people were arrested in Sausalito Thursday afternoon after a resident reported a suspicious car in his driveway that turned out to be stolen, police said. When a man living in the 100 block of Santa Rosa Avenue approached two men who had just parked a 2011 black Jeep Cherokee in his driveway, the men said that they were sorry and drove away.
The resident noted the Jeep’s license plate number and called police at about 1:30 p.m. The Jeep’s description matched that of a vehicle that was stolen from Harrison Avenue on Tuesday, and officers began a search of the surrounding area for the stolen vehicle. Within minutes, Cpl. McConnehey spotted the vehicle turning onto Cable Roadway.
Upon initiating a felony car stop, police took Jeremiah Martin, 35, and Jeffery Burdick, 32, both of San Francisco, out of the vehicle at gunpoint and placed them under arrest on suspicion of vehicle theft, according to police Martin is also suspected of possession of burglary tools, and Burdick has been placed on a parole hold, police said. As of this afternoon, the men were in police custody and were to be transported to Marin County Jail.
